Just minding my own business

Yesterday as I was perusing through MySpace, I came across a sermon entitled "The Unofficial Eulogy of Donda West". The message was preached by Dr. Jamal Bryant of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore and I already have a great appreciation for his ministry. However, when I saw the title of the message, I was a bit taken aback. In the back of my mind I was thinking, "Is this a pro Kanye West message?" Nevertheless, I proceeded to listen to the message, which lasted about 45 minutes. I must say that it was a wise decision to not bypass it because it was indeed profound. I would have missed it if I had turned up my nose. By the end of the message I was laid across my bed hugging myself, as the pastor admonished everyone to do, with tears rolling the side of my cheek. As I sat, I thought about all of the countless young women, students and relatives, to whom I have let slip away without saying an encouraging word. All of which were dealt with in the sermon. I believe that it's a mandate on my part to uplift young women and encourage them along the way, especially Christian women, because life isn't easy. It took some maturing on my part and I wholeheartedly believe that I am not the same woman that I used to be. I believe that I have become the woman that I was always searching for. I am by no means perfect but I've come a long way. My story as well as the stories of strong men and women need to be shared with young people so that they won't feel that they're all alone in this world. By no means was this sermon a revelation but it served as a reminder to get back on track and stay on track.
