It's Way Too Soon...
As a Virginian, my heart goes out to the families of the victims who died and also those who were wounded. In the wake of the massacre at Virginia Tech, I keep hearing the news commentators talk about gun control vs. the right to bear arms. It's way too soon to start discussing this complex issue. I think that we should let the students, faculty and their families grieve the way they want to and not have this issue dangling over their heads. The past two nights, on my way home from class, I begrudgingly listened to the Michael Savage "Savage Nation" Show. I can't express it enough that I do not like that man. But I listened anyway because he was the only thing on FM talk radio at night. He was ranting about "where are the presidential candidates?" and "how come they are not making comments about this VT incident?". I say, "who cares if they comment or not?". Will it make a difference what they say? No, it does not. The families are grieving and they are trying to comprehend how this happened. They want to know how can they survive each day knowing that their loved ones were snatched from them in an instant. Not being able to say goodbye or did I love them enough is probably what they are thinking about. Gun control, political spin doctors and all that other stuff should be saved for later. For now, let the families grieve. I think that we should be spending our time praying for the families and that at some point in time they find forgiveness for this young man, Cho Seong Hui. Then and only then will true healing occur.
