Dreamgirls

On Christmas Day I made my way to the movies to see the highly anticipated musical Dreamgirls. From the first time I heard that the movie was in production, I was already enthused about it. Although I had never seen the Broadway production, I instinctively remember Jennifer Holiday singing "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" blasting on the radio. I would say to myself, "...that girl can SING". All of those images carried with me as I eagerly watched the movie in this crowded theater outside of New Orleans. I must say that the movie didn't let me down and I found myself singing along with Jennifer Hudson's version of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" along with the rest of the audience. She rocked it! When I saw Eddie Murphy perform, I couldn't help but picture him in Coming to America "Sexy Chocolate" and a little bit of Velvet Jones from his days on Saturday Night Live.
