New Orleans Day 1

New Orleans Day 1

9:24 pm

We arrived in New Orleans (Kenner, LA) around 10:30 in the morning. Upon approaching the city it was much of what I expected. There were demolished trees, un-kept homes and destroyed neighborhoods. Upon arriving at the Eastbank Disaster Recovery Station in Kenner, my mother and I made our way to the downtown near the Superdome to meet our team. Everyone was so nice and initially there was some confusion about what actually needed to be done. Even in ministry there is sometimes politics involved. Needless to say we gutted out two homes that day. I learned a great deal about one thing…we are gutting out the homes of the people who have registered through FEMA. No FEMA registration…no trailer for the residents. Some residents who are well off are having there homes gutted out because its free when the services would be much more beneficial to the poor. That really bothered me.

I am very tired now. We have to prepare for another day tomorrow after church service.
